Dragon Warrior

Warning: this is my first blog post in English. I’m really sorry if there are some either grammatical or informative mistakes. I just want to try doing this.

Dragon Warrior (Chinese kanji: 鬥龍戰士) is a cartoon series from Taiwan that was produced by Bai Yi Animation Company, based from an online game with the same title (unfortunately, I don’t know whether the site is still available or not). Now, there are two seasons of it, but this time I’ll just review the first season. Talking about the first season, actually I don’t really know the production year~ XD #shot. The first season of this series consists to approximately 60 episodes. Anyway, in Indonesia this cartoon series is re-broadcasting on NET. and formerly on SpaceToon Indonesia.

Okay, the story of the first season is about a group of good friends – Tian Le, Xiao Da, and Mei Han – who got one dragon egg each (total: three eggs found). After those eggs had been hatched, the good friends went to a video game in a computer; it was a world of the dragons (I have no idea what to mention :D). Then, they had to save that world from the main antagonist – the dragon boss in an appearance of an Egyptian king. During their struggle, they met various characters, such as the 12 zodiac dragons (in Western context), and also a pair of antagonists who later joined them. Nah, I’ve told the story in general. Now, I’ll explain the main characters:

The humans:

From left to right: Upper - Tian Le, Ling-Ling, Zhi Yuan; Lower - Mei Han, A-Kun, Xiao Da (BTW, the little boy [with white hair and cropped face in the picture] next to A-Kun is Zhi Yuan's brother)

Name: Tian Le

Age: 10 years old

Personality: he’s a big fan of video games, has sunny-sided egg as his favorite food, hot-blooded, and dislikes Ling-Ling.

Name: An Xiao Da (nickname: Xiao Da) 

Age: 11 years old

Personality: he’s the genius one in the group, but has a lack of courage. He’s also sometimes annoyed with Mullard’s hyperactive behavior.

Name: Wang Mei Han (nickname: Mei Han)

Age: 10 years old

Personality: she’s from a rich family, and sometimes acts like a boy. She has apple pie as her favorite food.

Name: Ouw Yang Ling (nickname: Ling-Ling)
Age: 11 years old

Personality: he often acts cynically, especially to Tian Le – he dislikes him and regards him as a foolish kid as well. He also often swings a pen on his hands, between his fingers.

Name: Ouw Yang Kun (nickname: A-Kun)
Age: 12 years old

Personality: he’s Ling-Ling’s big brother who is no longer able to walk because of an accident which hurt his feet. He’s also a genius like Xiao Da, and he does a research in the dragon world. He usually communicates with Qiu Bi through a hopping robot named Tiao Tiao.

Name: Lu Zhi Yuan (nickname: Zhi Yuan)
Age: 9 years old

Personality: she loves reading books and sometimes she’s annoyed with Milla’s hyperactive behavior. She tries to bring her little brother (his name is Lu Zhi Tao) back to an orphanage　where they live. She’s also formerly an antagonist in the series. Although she’s younger than Mei Han, but I found that she’s more mature than her (in personality context). She’s also almost as cold as Ling-Ling.

Name: Tarigu (read: ta-ree-goo) 
Element: fire
Partner: Tian Le

Personality: he’s always full of courage and likes steamed bun. He’s also always happy and sometimes ends his sentences with the word, “gulu~”. He’s also confident and faithful to him.

Name: Mullard 

Element: wood
Partner: Xiao Da

Personality: he’s a hyperactive creature who extremely loves candies. He also often asks Xiao Da about various things and says ”Ay-yay-yay~”. <--LOL, did I ruin this? :3

Name: Cup
Element: earth
Partner: Mei Han

Personality: in appearance he looks cold, but in fact he’s tough and slightly stubborn. He dislikes the situation when Mei Han weeps out.

Name: Hinas (read: ha-ee-nas)
Element: water
Partner:  Ling-Ling

Personality: he’s a clever and kind creature. Although Ling-Ling often acts coldly, he still accepts him as his partner. Even he never considers him as an evil person especially after knowing about the accident. He often says “No problem”.

Name: Qiu Bi (read: shoo-bee)
Element: gold
Partner: A-Kun

Personality: he’s always alone because A-Kun can’t go into his side. They’ve ever met each other, but just once in the human’s world. He usually ends his sentences with the word, “qiu~”

Name: Milla (read: mee-lla) 

Element: light

Partner: Zhi Yuan

Personality: he was formerly Qiu Bi’s best friend, until Qiu Bi learnt that he’s in the enemy’s side along with Zhi Yuan. He loves marshmallow and often acts childishly, but he acts more maturely in his ultimate form.

   

Yup, that’s all the explanation of the main characters. Well, I have some more things to say:

1. Some fans of this series say that the storyline resembles the storyline of Digimon, but I can’t say whether the series does plagiarism on Digimon because I’ve ever neither seen it nor been a fan of it in fact~ #yaoming
2. The main dragon characters are designed from some dinosaur species (except Milla who resembles a chameleon :P). But, the thing I confuse at is this: Tarigu was designed from a T-Rex but he had two horns on his head, unlike the T-Rex which had no horns.
3. Many fans are confused with Mullard's gender because the feminine voice in the first season. However, in the second season it goes masculine. Same goes to Milla, but masculine in the first season and feminine in the second season. So, I'll consider those two as male characters ^J^.
